Care & Repairs

Care

I believe jewelry is meant to be worn. I also believe in complete transparency when it comes to the care and attention your jewelry requires.

Like watches or cars, fine jewelry benefits from occasional maintenance and attention over time.

Sterling Silver

925 sterling silver has the unique property of gently self-polishing through regular wear, reacting naturally with the oils in your skin. When left unworn, silver can react with oxygen in the air and develop a soft grey oxidation. This is completely normal and can be easily removed with a silver polishing cloth.

Water

Exposure to water should be considered on a case-by-case basis.

You may shower while wearing rings or earrings. However, necklaces and bracelets that use spring or lobster clasps contain a small steel coil inside the mechanism. Over extended periods of time, frequent exposure to water can cause this internal component to rust and fail.

For this reason, it’s best to remove necklaces and bracelets before showering or swimming.

Avoid wearing all jewelry in the ocean whenever possible.

Pearls and Ethiopian Opals should never be worn in water or exposed to any chemicals. Pearls and opals are organic and porous by nature. Exposure to water, soaps, salt, chlorine, or chemicals can weaken their surface over time and dull their luster.

Huggie Hoops

Huggie hoops require occasional adjustment. Because metal is malleable, the post WILL shift slightly with wear over time.

I recommend having your huggies adjusted by a local jeweler at least once a year to ensure the closure continues to click securely into place. Noticing when the fit changes and having them adjusted is a simple way to prevent loss.

Repairs

At this time, Eliza Reichl Jewelry is unable to accept items for repair.

As a small, independent studio, my focus is dedicated to the design and creation of new work, and I’m not able to offer in-house repair services.

For most common jewelry adjustments and repairs, your local jeweler will be well equipped to help. Many services are simple, affordable, and often completed while you wait.

Typical services a local jeweler can assist with include:

  •     Adjusting huggie earrings for a better fit (often at no charge)
  •     Shortening or lengthening necklaces & bracelets
  •     Replacing 925 silver lobster or spring clasps
  •     Soldering or repairing broken loops & connections

I always recommend building a relationship with a trusted local jeweler for ongoing care and maintenance of your pieces.
